The R&D Project ‘ValorH2, a pioneering initiative in research on the value chain of green hydrogen from its generation to its use, has presented to the technician of the Center for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI-E.P.E.) the evolution of the first milestone of the project.

The meeting, held on Thursday, April 11 at Hiperbaric’s headquarters in Burgos, was attended by the consortium partners of ‘ ValorH2‘: Aciturri, Adisseo, Ariema, Desmasa, DGH Technological Solutions, MTorres and the project leader, Hiperbaric. During the conference, the representatives of the companies presented the progress achieved in the different lines of research that make up the project.

The objective of ‘ValorH2’ is research into new technologies, materials and processes at different stages of the hydrogen value chain: the generation of hydro-gene by alkaline electrolysis technology (Ariema); the compression of this gas at very high pressure and providing a high flow rate (Hiperbaric); innovative storage solutions (MTorres) and very high pressure transport (Aciturri); and the use, on the one hand, in the refueling of hydrogen in electric vehicles with fuel cells (Desmasa) in a digitized process and with cybersecurity in the hydrogen plant (DGH); and on the other hand, in a process of methanation of CO2 recovered in the chemical industry (Adisseo). The results and proposed solutions are expected to increase efficiency, reduce the economic cost and minimize the carbon footprint in all of them.

Through research, the project is helping to strengthen the technological capacity of the consortium’s companies, which are leaders in their respective sectors, which will contribute to positioning Spain as a leading country in the movement against climate change and facilitate the implementation of renewable energies.

‘ValorH2’ is also fostering synergies among its partners, who have entered into several promising avenues of collaboration for the development of technologies related to the green hydrogen value chain.

Visit to Hiperbaric, Adisseo and Desmasa facilities.

The technical seminar included a visit to Hiperbaric’s headquarters and facilities in Burgos to learn more about the Green Hydrogen Compression Technology. The company showed Plug&Play solutions to compress H2 at high pressures in a safe, efficient and reliable way.

The attendees visited the Burgos facilities of Adisseo, a leading producer of additives and nutritional solutions for animal feed. In ‘ ValorH2‘, the company addresses the challenge of making use of hydrogen by optimizing the process of methanation of CO2 recovered from industrial processes, which will help Adisseo reduce its carbon footprint and improve its competitiveness.

The day concluded with a visit to the facilities of Desmasa, an engineering firm specializing in automation solutions, where the participants analyzed the progress made in the equipment that will dispense H2 at high pressure.

‘ValorH2’ is part of the call for Missions 2022 of the Center for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI E.P.E), under the Ministry of Science and Innovation, within its Mission 1: “Strengthen technological capabilities for safe and sustainable energy autonomy (fusion, hydrogen and renewables). This project has a subvention coming from the European funds “Next Generation EU”, specifically from the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism.
