Hiperbaric calculo y reduzco

  • The Burgos-based company reduces its average emission intensity by 23.2% in the three-year period 2022-2024, validating its decarbonization and energy efficiency strategy.
  • The recognition, awarded by the Spanish Office for Climate Change (OECC), certifies the transparency and rigor in the management of the carbon footprint at its facilities in Burgos.

Sello Calculo y Reduzco

Hiperbaric, the world leader in high-pressure technologies, has received the official “Calculate and Reduce” certification for the 2024 financial year. This recognition, awarded by the Spanish Office for Climate Change (OECC) of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (Miteco), certifies that the organization has met the dual objective of calculating its carbon footprint and effectively reducing it.

Obtaining this certification represents a milestone in the company’s environmental policy, as it validates the success of the measures implemented to minimize its impact in scopes 1 and 2. In 2024, Hiperbaric’s emissions were calculated at 88.87 tCO₂e (tons of carbon dioxide equivalent).

However, the key factor that has enabled the company to obtain the “Reduce” label is its positive evolution over time. Hiperbaric has achieved a 23.2% reduction in average emission intensity in the 2022-2024 three-year period compared to the 2021-2023 three-year period. This indicator demonstrates the company’s ability to decouple its industrial activity from the emissions generated, improving its energy efficiency year after year since it began verified registration in 2021.

Rigorous management of Scope 1 and 2

The seal endorses the company’s management of direct and indirect emissions. The audited calculation includes Scope 1, referring to direct emissions from sources controlled by the company (such as fuel consumption in its own facilities or vehicles), and Scope 2, which covers indirect emissions associated with the generation of electricity purchased and consumed at the plant. The combined reduction in both areas confirms a firm commitment to operational efficiency and the use of cleaner energy at its headquarters in Burgos.

An endorsement of the Sustainability Master Plan

For Hiperbaric, this recognition is a endorsement of its long-term strategic vision. Miguel Hernando, Hiperbaric’s general industrial manager, highlights the importance of moving from theoretical commitment to tangible results: “Receiving the ‘Calculate and Reduce’ seal is external validation that confirms that our Sustainability Master Plan has a real impact. Since 2021, we have been subjecting our activity to external verification because we understand that transparency is the only path to decarbonization. Having reduced our emission intensity by more than 23% is not a coincidence, but the result of a clear roadmap that integrates environmental vision into every industrial decision we make.”

This framework, regulated by Miteco, highlights the efforts made by organizations in the fight against climate change, clearly differentiating between those that only calculate their impact and those that, like Hiperbaric, manage to reduce it in a sustained manner.

Innovation and sustainability as a business model

Hiperbaric’s internal commitment to reducing emissions is consistent with the technologies it develops and markets globally. Its business lines are aligned with current environmental challenges: from HPP (High Pressure Processing) technology, which reduces food waste by extending the shelf life of products, to its high-pressure hydrogen compression solutions, which are key to the decarbonization of transportation and industry, to HIP (Hot Isostatic Pressing) technology, which optimizes the performance of materials in critical sectors.

With this certification, Hiperbaric reinforces its position as an industry leader, demonstrating that technological excellence and climate responsibility go hand in hand.
