Hot isostatic pressing (HIP)<\/strong> is a post-processing technology that involves applying high levels of pressure (up to 2,000 bar\/ 200 MPa) and temperature (up to 2,000\u00b0C)<\/strong> to a wide range of metal and ceramic components. This technology is becoming a key enabler for 3D or high-performance additive manufactured components in the aerospace, medical and energy sectors. HIP manages to eliminate porosity and densify 3D printed metallic materials<\/strong>, improving mechanical properties such as ductility, resilience and fatigue life. The main advantages are the elimination of defects, which drastically reduces the number of nonconformities, and compliance with the most demanding standards.<\/p>\n

HIP is a technology that is set to revolutionize the 3D printing market, which is in full expansion and according to several studies will grow by around 17% per year until 2025. <\/strong>“By applying HIP to metal parts manufactured with 3D printing, we are able to eliminate any possible defects in components for very demanding sectors such as space or prosthetics,” explains Rub\u00e9n Garc\u00eda, HIP Project Manager at Hiperbaric.<\/strong><\/p>\n
