Burgos, July 16, 2021

The General Manager of the Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI), Javier Ponce Martínez, has held a meeting with the Hiperbaric management team, where he has learned first-hand the progress of the R&D projects that the company is carrying out in the world of high pressure. The head of the body belonging to the Ministry of Science and Innovation has visited the company’s headquarters in Burgos and met with Andrés Hernando, CEO of Hiperbaric; Carole Tonello, General Director of Business Development, and other senior officers of the company in a meeting that has highlighted the expansion and growth of Hiperbaric.

The company is a world leader in the development and manufacture of high-pressure industrial equipment and expects to go public within two years. It is carrying out its ambitious Strategic Plan until the end of 2022, where R & D is at the heart of its strategy in its three lines of business: High Pressure Processing (HPP), Isostatic Hot Pressing (HIP) and hydrogen compression (H2).

HPP technology for safe, natural and healthy food

One of the pillars of Hiperbaric focuses on hydrostatic compression technology (water up to 6,000 bar) for the high-pressure processing of foods (High Pressure Processing, HPP) that produces healthy, natural and safe products. In this sense, the firm holds the global leadership with 60 % of the market share and more than 300 HPP equipment installed in 45 countries.

HIP technology for the development of advanced materials

In 2018 Hiperbaric launched a new line of industrial machinery for Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) used to confer improved mechanical properties to critical industrial metallic and ceramic components. Thanks to HIP, advanced materials can be developed focused on the aerospace, energy, oil & gas, automotive and medical implant sectors. Hiperbaric’s HIP technology focuses on the post-processing of complex components made from different types of advanced super alloys.

“We are working on a new HIP technology equipment that will mean a qualitative leap to innovate in advanced materials for Metal Additive Manufacturing technologies”, said Andrés Hernando, CEO of Hiperbaric. The company has recently inaugurated the HIP Innovation Center at its facilities to test new components and materials, and it is the first center of its kind in Spain. “We have important industrial alliances and different technological partners for the development of applications that place Spain in the focus of innovation in new materials processed by HIP“, according to Hernando.

Hydrogen compression for sustainable mobility

In 2020, backed by its extensive and successful track record in the world of high pressure, Hiperbaric launched a new business line focused on the compression of hydrogen as an energy vector for sustainable mobility. It is the first hydrogen compressor of Spanish innovation at very high pressures.

In fact, Hiperbaric will install the first Spanish hydrogen compressor at the end of this summer in the hydrogen filling station of the National Hydrogen Center (CNH2), in Ciudad Real. It is an equipment that manages to fill hydrogen storage tanks of up to 1,000 bar pressure, to recharge the tanks of the latest generation fuel cell vehicles.

“This industrial technological development will allow Hiperbaric to be prepared to meet the strong supply demand in the coming years of compressors with similar characteristics for the installation in Spain and other countries of a wide network of hydrogen filling stations, which allow the circulation of fuel cell vehicles.” highlights Andrés Hernando.

Committed to R&D

Since it was founded in 1999, it has participated in more than 25 R&D projects and involves more than 20% of the workforce in these activities, facts that have contributed to its committed, avant-garde and groundbreaking image. It has led projects with high technological content in the world of high pressure, which have been funded by the Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI).

Hiperbaric has a turnover of 50 million euros per year, employs more than 120 people and invests in research and development more than 10% of the result of each year.

International awards such as the IFT Innovation Award, received in 2008 for the development of the HPP equipment with the largest size and productive capacity to date; the 2015 Edison Award for Hiperbaric’s contribution to innovation and technological progress or the European Technology Award, which highlighted the launch of its Hiperbaric Bulk HPP technology in 2020, are proof of its success.

Currently, in addition to its 30,000m2 headquarters in Burgos, the company has an international delegation in Miami (USA) and commercial and technical representation offices in Mexico, Asia and Oceania, a positioning strategy in the main markets that has allowed it to get closer to its clients and advocate for a faster and more personalized service that increases their satisfaction, the objective of this great company.
