In 1947 Espuña was born in Olot (Girona) as a sausage maker. Since then, Espuña has been able to expand its range of products and be present in the national and international market. Currently, Espuña is headquartered in Olot. Its production plants are distributed between Olot province of Girona (where it has two factories, a multi-product plant and sliced products, and another for cured ham), Utrillas province of Teruel (plant for sliced products), La Pobla de Lillet province of Barcelona (Plantation of Chilled Plates and Dishes) and Gloversville NY State USA (Embutidos y Loncheados plant). The 5 factories form an industrial area of 50,000 m2 and employ a total of 450 people. Exports account for almost 50% of the total turnover of the company and, although it is present in more than 45 countries in the world, its main markets are France, Portugal, USA and Germany. Espuña also exports to other countries that are very demanding with quality and food safety, such as Japan and Korea.

Espuña was the first company in the world to market a meat product processed by high hydrostatic pressures. The "cold pasteurization" allows, on the one hand, to ensure the freshness of the cooked products during their useful life and, on the other, to offer a range of cured slices that can be kept out of the cold.
